As an artist, I am compelled to create visual representations of my observations, experiences, and dreams. Over time, common threads have been found in my body of work. One of the most common is that of my observations of the people around me.
Having observed people closely for my entire life, I feel that many of us are easily manipulated by unseen hands. Malleable like clay. For decades, powerful manipulators have perfected the art of deception and control via television, print, radio, and now, the internet. Greed and control have been the driving force behind these mechanisms since the very start.
So masterful are these manipulators, they have gained the absolute trust and devotion of the masses in this country. With so many people trusting these manipulators with childlike innocence, it is small wonder that things are as messed up as they are right now. It was this very observation that led me to create The Clay People.
The Clay People are my artistic representation of the misguided. I see them as innocent people who have been led astray by those whom they have trusted. They are oblivious to the unseen hands shaping them. Clueless of the strings pulling this way and that. Innocently unaware of the psychological manipulation affecting them at every turn. Blind to the depths of deception directed at them every single day.
I did not create them as a form of deprecation. In truth, we all have much in common. To varying degrees, we are all Clay People.
