Thoughts behind the artwork...

The Vile Goddess uses all of her considerable beauty and guile to snare her victims. One after another she uses them until they are spent. Once they have nothing left to give she casts them aside. On the surface, she possesses beauty beyond measure... but beneath the surface she is wormlike and blackhearted. Her beauty is such that her victims continue to worship her long after they have been cast aside... forever scarred by her touch. -John Alexander (aka SirJohn)

This has long been a favorite image of mine. In reality, this image was one of the most important foundational works of my artistic journey. Prior to this image, my works were more or less just things interesting to look at... experiments in learning the tools that I use. It was at this point where my creative approach changed from simply making images to look at, to becoming visual representations of my dreams, experiences, and observations of the world and people around me.

What initially inspired this image was the memory of a woman I once worked with. She was a tall, slender super model type with naturally curly blonde hair that cascaded all the way to her slim wasteline. Everywhere she went, the heads turned to follow her. For some reason I was able to see beyond the surface beauty from the very start. Something about her was wrong. I observed how she behaved and saw that her beauty was literally skin deep. Beneath she was dark and ugly as hell. As time went on, I learned just how terrible of a human being she really was. Luckily for me my initial instincts steered me clear of any influence she could have had. However, I saw her destroy other people in the time that I knew her. She truly was the basis for The Vile Goddess that I have depicted.

Many of my images represent people that I have known or observed over the course of my life. Not all of my imagery is a reflection of my own personal experiences. This image is a perfect example. Never had I been ensnared by the likes of The Vile Goddess. But I certainly have seen others who have been victimized by her. The Vile Goddess represents not just the one that I mentioned, but the many who walk among us.
