When I came stumbling into the parking lot I saw two cars still sitting there. One of my pals came over and handed me a beer and asked me 'where ya bin? I bin looggin for you allover'… I told him I decided to take a little walk. He was drunk as a lord and that answer was all he needed. I wandered over to where my drunk, psychotic girlfriend was talking to one of her intoxicated friends. As she slipped her arm around me and gave me a kiss I could see that our 'fight' was already lost in the haze… booze softens the memory I'm told. Speaking of which, I don't really remember much about the trip home, only that the sun was coming up and the clouds had lifted.
Seeing the sunrise after a night of drinking always brought mixed emotions. On one hand, I saw the sun as something invigorating, refreshing… like a new beginning. On the other hand, I felt so tired… so tired. I was eighteen years old at the time. I'd like to say I learned something from that adventure, but I'd be lying if I did. I did not know it back then, but wisdom never comes easy… it is earned the hard way.
